Nurturing Minds,

Building Futures

Mission

Logic focuses on building essential social and emotional learning skills needed to become productive and contributing citizens of society. Logic addresses the social, emotional, and academic needs of children ages 10-18 and is specifically designed to improve academic achievement and school attendance. Children are members of Logic, as they belong to a community and are trained to become leaders, advocates, and role models within their communities. Logic will form partnerships with local school networks, churches and community centers to facilitate the academic and social emotional needs of the youth. Recognizing how Covid-19 has changed social settings for children, Logic has added an online learning option to overcome the social distancing barriers.

Vision

Logic was developed in direct response to the growing number of children that are either falling through the cracks at school, or are already entangled with the juvenile court system. As a result of repeated failures experienced in the classroom, and the development of destructive habits, at-risk youth have lost faith in the possibilities that await them if they are successful in putting their lives on the right track. Logic will foster a commitment to the youth that will encourage academics, self and social awareness, responsible decision making, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future of their lives. To accomplish this goal, our youth must be in a caring, inclusive learning environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces personal respect. That environment is Logic.

“We have to change the narrative in order to rebuild  society.”

The philosophy behind the Logic curriculum is to empower our youth by having them think critically about themselves, their identity and their goals, while breaking down negative messages fed to them by society and the media. Logic Mentoring has adapted “Sankofa” into its program to shape our social emotional based curriculum. Sankofa is an African word from the Akan tribe in Ghana.  The literal translation of the word and the symbol is it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.”

The sankofa symbolizes the Akan people’s quest for knowledge among the Akan with the implication that the quest is based on critical examination, and intelligent and patient investigation.

The symbol is based on a mythical bird with its feet firmly planted forward with its head turned backwards. Thus, the Akan believe the past serves as a guide for planning the future. To the Akan, it is this wisdom in learning from the past which ensures a strong future. The Akans believe that there must be movement and new learning as time passes. As this forward march proceeds, the knowledge of the past must never be forgotten.
